From the moment we entered 174 Needlerush Drive I was in awe of the reclaimed barn wood floors, the shiplap walls and ceilings, and the layout of this true craftsman home in Watercolor Florida. ;
Know Before You Go
Enjoy the beaches of South Walton and know the rules before you go.
My grand children just visited…it was my grand daughter’s birthday. This summer was the first summer she was allowed to stay for a week without her brother or parents. We were able to try different things on our schedule and what we wanted to do. So for her big treat I signed her up at Gulf World in Panama City Beach, for one of their packages that allowed her to be in the pool with a dolphin. Not only did she love the experience, she took away some very important information on how to help protect our environment and waters. I’ve said for years if we would start teaching them when they are young or in school at an early age, not only will they know the importance but they would also teach their parents and others.
❖ Remove all your items from the beach at the end of the day…chairs, toys, tents, towels etc.
❖ If you dig a hole, fill them back up before you leave…we want the nesting turtles and their hatchlings to have a smooth path to the gulf
❖ TRASH – throw away all your trash, even small items – they can cause hazard to our marine life and everyone wants to come to a clean beach…SO clean up after yourself.
Needless to say I was so proud when we passed a large hole that someone left, she ran to our truck and grabbed my shovel and ran back to fill it in, then told her brother the importance of not leaving holes and trash behind.
Beach safety is always a must. South Walton has a color flag system set up so that everyone knows the current water conditions. You can also know before you head to the beach by texting “SAFETY” to 31279 or downloading their app “Perfect Beach”. The app offers much more information from weather to things to do…it even has a sun calculator so you don’t miss your sunrise or sunset. Sea Turtle nesting season is May 1 – October 31. Please remember they are an endangered species. We have 4 species that nest on our beaches…Loggerhead, Green, Leatherback and Kemps Riley. Each nest averages 90 – 120 eggs and takes 40 – 60 days to hatch and head to the Gulf. Born and raised in Alabama, Kathy's family chose this area of Florida to vacation more often than not. So, at an early age, she developed a love for this spot of "Heaven on earth". When her boys grew ....
