Homeownership Americans Dream

Homeownership is still one of Americans top dreams.

One of the reasons I wanted to be a Realtor was to help first time buyers. I was a single parent and I wanted a home for my boys. Because we had moved around a lot when I was still married I didn't want to live in an apartment or rent a home, I wanted a place they could call home. A yard for them to play in, a place they could feel secure. I had that growing up and I wanted them to experience that too. My family had the same house my entire life, so I was very unfamiliar to moving around. I not going to say it was easy, I had no direction. I had my goal and I was going to figure out a way. I had someone tell me about state grant money and you had to be a first time buyer. I researched and found out you had to act the day they announced it was available. Now it is much easier, your first steps...talk to a lender and get pre-approved and of course talk to a local Realtor.

Recently I had the honor of meeting a remarkable young man while I was at the Florida Realtor Convention..Jefferson. Jefferson was our bellman that loaded our car to leave. We started talking while waiting on the car. I asked him what was his favorite car of all the cars that had come to stay at the hotel. He told me if he had a lot of money the most important thing to spend your money on is a house "you need a place for peace". When you buy a car you lose a lot of money when you drive off the lot. With a home you just have to wait and be patient, your home value will increase. It doesn't bother him to spending money on his home. I was so impressed with what he told me...Jefferson had no idea I was a Realtor. Jefferson has worked at this hotel for 6 years and 8 months. He is originally from Haiti and what a wonderful out look on life. I told him he should be a motivational speaker and start off with teenagers. I wish I had more time to talk to him, I will look for him at our next convention.

I have also been blessed to have an amazing friend, that trusted me to be her Realtor, I call her my daughter & she calls me Mama. She reminds me so much of myself when I was her age. She is the proud mother of three beautiful and talented children. She is also a single mom and doesn't let things get in her way, she will figure out a way to make it happen. I tell her often, they may not realize the sacrifices you have made for them now...but they will. The excitement her kids had while viewing the house after our offer was accepted was priceless...that is why I became a Realtor.
