I Am So Much Cooler Online
Okay maybe I am not cooler online, but I am out there. Now with all the different apps, sites, and social media platforms it is different than ever before. There are different platforms for different uses, and on top of that internet trends are quick to change. Do you remember when AOL instant messenger and chatrooms were a thing back in the dial-up days? Everything about how we communicate is constantly evolving. Look at how we use phones now. For many, text are more common than calls. Sending pictures or videos can be quicker than sending words. I regularly see people talk into their phone just for it to convert it to text to send instead of calling and having a voice conversation. If that does not show a texting trend I do not know what does.
Back to the different platforms. The ones I use are: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, my website/blog, and Snapchat.
LinkedIn: I do not use this one very much so do not have much to say about it. It is business professional. For me I feel like its more of an internet resume. Something you update when you want a job. I do not know. Its not my preferred platform.
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.30a This one has been around for a while. It is everyday life. Pretty normal stuff goes on here. I try to keep my Facebook mature where as other platforms I post silly things.
Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/jonathan._hill/ Instagram is my favorite platform. I would say posting on Instagram is like a photo album. It is highlights worthy of taking a picture to keep around. It has two parts now though. The stories that you post that people can view for 24 hours then they go away, and the post that stay. The stories are more informal and are a product of boredom or wanting to show people what you are doing at the moment but not worthy of actually becoming a post that sticks around. Form the viewing standpoint you can search by hashtag or location and see what is trending.
Snapchat: Follow at your own risk! If LinkedIn is me in a suit and tie, Snapchat is me in a Halloween costume. This is mostly the younger crowd. I use it to talk to specific people more than post stories for everyone to see. If I do post a story it is on my Snapchat instead of Instagram or Facebook because it is rated R.
If I compared me on social media to a movie Snapchat is the bloopers, Instagram is the highlights, Facebook is the main plot, and LinkedIn is the title. Everyone uses each platform their own way and there is not a right or wrong. That is the beauty of social media. It is the product of you.
